Madhuri Dixit On Taking Up Sridevi’s Role In Kalank: "I Hope I Make Her Proud"

Madhuri Dixit revealed she was very "emotional" when Karan Johar asked her to take up Sridevi's role" in Kalank.

Madhuri Dixit, who was roped in the late legendary Sridevi's role in Karan Johar’s ambitious film Kalank, shared that she hopes to make the late Sadma actor proud. For the unversed, Madhuri Dixit was the first choice in Karan Johar's casting since the sudden demise of Sridevi. Kalank also featured Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Dutt, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead roles.

Following Sridevi's death, it was reported that KJo was planning to drop the project, but later Madhuri Dixit was all set to step into her shoes.  In March 2018, Sridevi's daughter Janhvi Kapoor took to Instagram to thank Madhuri for taking up in Abhishek Varman's film which earlier was to star her mother.

The sudden death of Sridevi came as a shock to her. Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit were contemporaries in the late 80s and the early 90s.

Directed by Abhishek Varman, the multi-starrer drama revolves around the hard times faced by India and Pakistan in the 1940s. The big-budget film is all set to release on 19th April 2019.
