With period drama "Takht", Karan Johar is returning to direction after a gap of three years. His last directorial was "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil", starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in principal roles.

Karan Johar is all set to wield the megaphone once again. After directing Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in his last directorial venture Ae Dil Hai Mushkil in 2016, KJo will next call the shot for his most ambitious film, Takht.

Announced in 2018, Takht is a period drama revolving around the two warring brothers of the Mughal Empire. The historical drama features an ensemble star cast which includes the likes of Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, Anil Kapoor and Janhvi Kapoor in pivotal roles.

Talking more about the film, Karan Johar recently told an Indian daily that Takht at heart is a family film which marks his return to making a strong, emotional and dynamic family film.

Many people believe that Takht is actually a modern take on the cult classic Mughal-e-Azam (1960). At a media interaction last year, Karan Johar said that his next directorial venture is the Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001) of the Mughal era.

Earlier, Takht was set to begin production in mid-2019. However, the project was then pushed to the latter half of the year due to some reasons. The latest we hear that now Karan Johar is looking at commencing the first schedule of the movie at the beginning of 2020.

More details are awaited.
