"Kalank" Box Office Collection Day 1: Varun Dhawan-Alia Bhatt Film Becomes The Biggest Opener Of 2019

"Kalank" starring Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, and Aditya Roy Kapur, has emerged as the biggest opener of 2019 so far.

With a stellar cast of Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Sonakshi Sinha, it’s no surprise when Abhishek Varman's Kalank has scored big right on its first day of release.
The period drama has lived up to the expectation and become the biggest opener of 2019 with the collection of Rs 21.06, defeating the opening-day record of Akshay Kumar starrer Kesari.
Besides, Kalank is also one of the biggest releases in 2019 with about 4000 screens across India. Set in the pre-independence India, the film follows 6 characters who are connected by love and revenge.
After its big release, Kalank has garnered mixed reviews from critics. Trade expert Girish Johar recommended everyone should watch the film at least once. He wrote in his review,
However, critic Ananya Bhattacharya from India Today gave it 2 stars out of 5 for its slow pace.
Touted as a dream project of filmmaker-producer Karan Johar and his father Yash, which was conceptualized for around 15 years, Kalank will see the reunion of Bollywood iconic couples Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt after two decades.
Talking about sharing the screen space after a gap of two decades, veteran actor Sanjay Dutt shared that he was quite nervous at first, but Madhuri made things easy.
