The lure of Bollywood's limelight might be irresistible to many people as being a celebrity could give you almost everything. However, many celebs decided to leave the B-Town to go back to a normal life, leaving their dream and passion behind. These talents are still fully expected to make a comeback on the silver screen, but at the moment, they are more than happy to focus on building a happy family.

Here is the list of Bollywood actresses who put their career on hiatus or calling it quits for good for the sake of their marriage and children.

Neetu Singh

Neetu Singh was among the top Bollywood actresses of her time, delivering hits and being nominated for countless awards. However, she gave it up at 21 while she was at the peak of her career. On January 1980, Neetu got married to Rishi Kapoor, and everyone was shocked at her decision on leaving the industry. However, the actress made a comeback with Love Aaj Kal after 26 years, playing a role opposite her husband, Rishi.


Babita had done 19 Bollywood films before quitting acting to marry her man Randhir Kapoor in 1971. She decided to leave the silver screen to focus on taking care of her two daughters, Karisma and Kareena Kapoor.

Shalini Kumar

Shalini Kumar was introduced to the industry as a child artist and later became a successful Tamil actress. However, she quit her career after marrying actor Thala Ajith Kumar in 2000. The actress never regretted her decision as she has always found her husband caring and lovable.

Madhuri Dixit

It has been 28 years since the release of Madhuri Dixit's iconic song Dhak Dhak, and she is still the woman of everyone's dreams. However, after marrying Dr. Shriram Madhav Nene, the actress took a break from movies to devote time to her personal life. From 1999 to 2007, Madhuri settled in the US and only did one or two films during these years.

Namrata Shirodkar

Former Miss India, Namrata Shirodkar was known for several supporting roles in films such as Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai and Dil Vil Pyar Vyar. While she was making a name for herself in the industry, the actress suddenly gave up her career after marrying Tollywood star Mahesh Babu in 2005.


Bhagyashree became an overnight star after the release of her first film Maine Pyar Kiya. After taking part in a couple of projects, the actress then decided to left Bollywood at the peak of her career and focused on her marriage with businessman Himalaya Dassani. In 2009, the gorgeous actress was back in a reality dancing show called Jhalak Dikhla Jaa.

Sonali Bendre

Sonali Bendre made her successful debut with Agg in 1994 and later basked in the sun of her achievements in the industry. She bid farewell to the industry and walked down the aisle with Goldie Behl in 2002. The actress was only seen in 2 films by making special cameos after her marriage.

Karisma Kapoor

Karisma Kapoor was the first girl from the Kapoor family who stepped into Bollywood. After carving her footprint in the film industry, the actress married Sanjay Kapur in 2003, embraced motherhood and eventually, her films took a backseat. As many fans were waiting for the actress to be on the silver screen once again, she made a comeback with Dangerous Ishq in 2012. Unfortunately, the film failed miserably at the box office, and Karisma has quitted doing new projects since then.
