Shahid Kapoor’s latest release Kabir Singh which hit the theaters on 21 June is doing wonders at the box office. The Hindi remake of Telugu-language blockbuster Arjun Reddy (2017) shattered the record and became Shahid Kapoor’s biggest opener in the actor’s career.
Despite garnering positive reviews from the audiences and the critics alike, the film has been negatively reviewed by a few.
While many cannot stop heaping praises on Shahid’s terrific performance, the way the movie glorifies substance abuse and toxic masculinity make many bewilder. One of them is none other than singer and composer Sona Mohapatra who earlier took a dig at Salman Khan by calling him "Paper Tiger".
Among multitudes of praises, Sona took to social media to urge people to stop lauding Shahid Kapoor's performance. Not only did the singer slam the film Kabir Singh, but also question Shahid for taking up the misogynist film.
She reacted to the tweet of Rekha Sharma (chairman of National Commission for Women) who had sung the praises of Shahid’s performance in Kabir Singh.
Quoting the tweet of Sharma, Mohapatra said,
However, the chairperson then deleted her tweet in which she praised Shahid.
In another tweet, Sona went on to tag a reviewer and said,
For the record, the film Kabir Singh had won the hearts of many audiences and collected Rs 21.21 crore on the opening day itself.
