Anuup Sonii Reveals Why He Turned Down “Balika Vadhu” Thrice Before Finally Coming Onboard

Anuup Sonii played the character of Bhairon Dharamveer Singh on Colors’ long-running show. He appeared on Balika Vadhu from 2008 till he quit in 2014.

Anuup Sonii is delighted to know that one of the most popular shows of his career, Balika Vadhu (2008-16), has made a comeback on Indian television sets. Produced by Sphere Origins, the show revolved around the topic of child marriage and widow remarriage and turned out to be one of the most popular shows of the last decade.

Anuup Sonii, who played the character of Bhairon Dharamveer Singh on Balika Vadhu, received great response for his performance on the show. But do you know that the actor had initially turned down the show not once or twice but thrice? Yes, you heard that absolutely right!

Talking to a popular publication, Anuup Sonii revealed that at that point of time, one of his shows CID Special Bureau had just ended and he wanted to take a break from work. Additionally, Colors had not launched at that time so he was a little reluctant about taking up the show on a yet to be launched.

He went on to add that he got a lot of calls from the production house and the writers of the show but he rejected it 2-3 times as he was keen on taking a break. But as they say, what is destined to happen, will happen, so he happened to do the show and it went to become one of the most iconic shows in Indian television’s history.

Balika Vadhu began its re-run on Colors on Monday, 13th April. The channel has decided to re-broadcast the show during the lockdown, as shooting of their ongoing shows is on hold due to the Coronavirus lockdown and all episode banks are exhausted. Apart from Anuup Sonii, Balika Vadhu also featured Avika Gor, Pratyusha Banerjee, Toral Rasputra, Avinash Mukherjee, Sidharth Shukla and Smita Bansal, among others, on its ensemble cast.
