Plot

The film starts with Anil Kapoor (Avinash), Aishwarya Rai (Preeti) and two kids, which pretend to be a close-knit family.  However, the truth turns out the opposite. Anil and Ash are not married and the two kids are not children.

Ash is a victim of rape, shunned by both her family and society. She bravely came forward and testified against Bhavani Choudhry (Mukesh Rishi), and this act angers his wealthy family. In turn, his brother, Babloo Choudhry (Puru Raajkumar), raped her. In the depth of her sadness, Anil met Ash, and the generous man offers her to live with him.

The two kids are Anil's step-brother and sister. Anil’s father, played by Anang Desai, had an affair with the deceased mother of the two but denied this relationship. This forced Anil to leave his home, bringing his two half-blood siblings with him.

Living under the same roof, Anil gradually falls for Ash, but her respect for him is too high that the idea of marrying him never comes to her head. Ash only realizes her right feeling for Anil when Sonali Bendre (Khushi) tries to win his heart and bring him back to his family. Then the hijinks commence.

Top 100 Bollywood Movies of All Time lister: A family movie full of twists

It's hard to pinpoint an exact genre for Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, but that might not be a bad thing. It only aids to show what a genius director Satish Kaushik is. His last movie, Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain, has a lot to do with why Satish has chosen to craft another family-oriented film.

Although most movies in the genre bear some resemblance, this film is a step above the rest, choosing not to conform to stereotypes and takes the viewer by surprise in its narration.

You immediately run into the first twist only minutes into the theatre. The very first scene makes you think that Anil and Ash are married, but in fact, they are not.

Anil and the two children pose quite a peculiar relationship rarely seen in Bollywood movies. Making Ash a rape victim is a bold move from Satish, as it requires elegance and respect.

Director Satish Kaushik flexes his genius

Being a family movie, Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai tends to not turn too serious, despite its subject matter. Instead, the director manages to masterfully blend hilarity, with great acting from the comedian casts, with equally heart-wrenching moments. Here is some other evidence that shows Satish's talent.

The fierce reaction of Ash's father after she has been sexually harassed. The moment of confrontation between Anil's mother, Smita Jaykar, and Ash. The expertly shot climax of the film (that we dare not spoil).

After the unforgettable story comes to the memorable soundtrack

Another plus to Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai is the music. As soon as you hear the catchy tunes of 'It's My Family,' or the upbeat instrumentals of 'Shukriya Shukriya,' you are immediately reminded of the movie.

On the whole, Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai is a fantastic package, with a great director at its helm and amazingly talented actors. The film mostly aims at family, but it deserves to be named in Top 100 Bollywood Movies Of All Time.
