Ram Charan delivered one of the biggest blockbusters of Telugu cinema with his period action drama Rangasthalam in 2018. Also starring Samantha Akkineni, Jagapati Babu, Aadhi Pinisetty and Prakash Raj in important roles, the high-profile film set the box-office on fire and emerged as one of the biggest Telugu hits after the S.S. Rajamouli-directed Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) and Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017), featuring Prabhas, Tamannaah Bhatia, Anushka Shetty and Rana Daggubati in lead roles.
However, if latest reports are to be believed, Rangasthalam has been overshadowed by the two recently released Telugu movies Sarileru Neekevvaru (2020) and Ala Vaikuntapuramlo (2020). Sarileru Neekevvaru is headlined by megastar Mahesh Babu, while Ala Vaikuntapuramlo has Allu Arjun fronting the cast. Allu Arjun is the cousin of Ram Charan. Reportedly, Sarileru Neekevvaru and Ala Vaikuntapuramlo both films are going pretty strong at the domestic box-office and have surpassed the lifetime collection of the Ram Charan starrer Rangasthalam.
Currently Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali: The Conclusion occupy the number one and number two slots, followed by the films of Allu Arjun and Mahesh Babu and Sye Raa Narsimha Reddy (2019) by Chiranjeevi. A trade source tells a publication that the collection war between Sarileru Neekevvaru and Ala Vaikuntapuramlo is going on, and no one knows the exact figures both the films have earned so far. However, the source adds that it is certain that both these films have overtaken the Ram Charan starrer Rangasthalam. Interestingly, the two much-loved movies have also surpassed Baahubali: The Beginning in the two Telugu states.
Meanwhile, Ram Charan is busy shooting for his next film, tentatively titled RRR. It reunites him with director S.S. Rajamouli after a long time. The fictional period drama also stars Jr. NTR in the lead role, while Bollywood stars Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt will be seen in important cameos.
