Diljit Dosanjh is an Indian actor and singer who believes that the Punjabi film industry is growing day by day in terms of the content and viewership. Diljit is one of the most famous personalities in the Punjabi film industry as well as the music industry.
"The Punjabi film industry has grown immensely in the past seven-eight years and has reached newer heights in terms of content and also expanding its audiences worldwide, and that’s a great thing. I hope the industry keeps growing in this positive direction. We are not only having a great audience for Punjabi films in north India but we are also seeing growth in other places like Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Indore, etc. And the overseas audiences have always been good for us. Without them we couldn’t have taken Punjabi cinema to such heights,” Diljit said in a statement.
The actor who will be seen in his next film Shadaa which is based on a man and women who are past their eligibility criteria of the marriage. The film revolves around the system of the marriage institution in India. He is recognized as one of the leading artists in the Punjabi Music Industry. He also acts in Punjabi Movies with many of them being notable hits, including Jatt and Julie, Jatt and Juliet 2, Punjab 1984, Sardaar Ji, Ambarsariya, Sardaar Ji 2, Super Singh, Soorma and Sajjan Singh Rangroot which was the most successful film in the history Punjabi film industry.
The actor came into limelight after the Bollywood hit Udta Punjab, and it was Diljit Dosanjh's first Hindi film which was directed by Abhishek Chaubey. The film deals with the subject of substance abuse in the Indian province of Punjab. Dosanjh also sang the song Ik Kudi for the film. In a highly positive review, The Hindu said that "Dosanjh was "successful" in delivering a "highly hitting performance".
In September 2016, Dosanjh has completed work on his second Bollywood production Phillauri alongside Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma. The film was released on 23 March 2017. It grossed over ₹5 million in its box-office.
