Great Music Director Khayyam Passes Away At 92

The great musician had been hospitalized because of a lung infection on 28 July after he collapsed right at his home.

Legendary music director Khayyam is no more. He passed away in Sujay Hospital in Mumbai yesterday because of a cardiac arrest.

His spokesperson Khayyam Trust Pritam Sharma stated,

For those who are unversed, the great musician had been hospitalized because of a lung infection on 28 July after he collapsed right at his home.

The fact is that he was actually named Mohammed Zahur Khayyam Hashmi and began his career at a very young age of 17 in Ludhiana.

His career spanned nearly four decades from 1953 to 1990.

Speaking of his achievement, he is the winners of a host of prestigious awards including the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement in the year 2010. Khayyam also won two more Filmfare awards to his credit, one for Best Music (1977) for Kabhi Kabhie and one for Umrao Jaan (1982). In the year 2007, the legend was also awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in Creative Music.
