Origin of the Film Title

Not many know that the movie’s title has a derivation from an Islamic term Fanaa which means “destroyed” in Hindi, Urdu, Persian, and Arabic. Two main characters Kajol and Khan made a romantic pair on the big screen for the first time and Fanaa also marked Kajol’s comeback since her last appearance in the Karan Johar directorial Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

In Fanaa, actor Aamir Khan played as a tourist guide named Rehan Khan while Kajol treated the viewers with an exceptional portrayal as Zooni Ali Beg, a blind woman. Both fell head over heels in love with each other; however, the climax comes when the two are unfortunately separated by a horrible terrorist attack which reportedly leads Rehan Khan to death.

However, he does not die in that attack, instead, it’s later disclosed that one Kashmiri insurgent who goes with the name Rehan Qadri as well as the attack’s mastermind get killed.

It seems that the fate between him and Zooni doesn’t stop there. Their reunion after seven years since the attack is due to the mission of Rehan in Kashmir.

Throughout the film, the romance between Rehan Khan and Zooni Ali Beg is strengthened by the perfect combination of frolics, unscripted musical numbers, and poetry. But, all of these things are undermined because of a spirit ugliness which gives permission for a delightful blind woman to fall in love with a repugnant man.

Filming locations

Faana was shot in Poland where the Tatra Mountains is located. Here, the filming process went smoothly with facilitating background of mountainous and snowy terrain. Moreover, the movie was also filmed in some historical locations such as Red Fort, Purana Quila, Lodhi Gardens, and Jantar Mantar.
