"The Case Against Adnan Syed" is directed by the acclaimed documentary filmmaker Amy Berg, who has helmed several emotionally stirring films in the past.
The Case Against Adnan Syed
Prior to the Case Against Adnan Syed gives an introduction about any up-to-date information, slogging over a three-hour revision is a need - and even it couldn’t help, you still feel anticlimactic. That’s tragic, thinking about how extreme the attention to the case of Syed has been as well as how instrumental the movie’s been in showing in the crime non-fiction’s Golden Age.
Momentarily, it’s gratifying to witness the people with their voices we have heard during a podcast; nonetheless, this soon fades away. And, it’s never easy to think of anyone who is not aware of the story of Adnan checking this series tangentially, without having acquainted themselves with the Serial first. However, even when one was to take no notice of the groundbreaking examination into the case of this podcast, the Case Against Adnan Syed gives a bit superficial look at a story which gripped the world in the year of 2014.
The American Pakistani Adnan Syed - who is a popular and top student without any criminal record in the eyes of his peers - was arrested because he murdered Hae Min Lee, his ex-girlfriend. Adnan was put in prison for nearly 20 years, serving life imprisonment, but still has stayed his innocence. He has made several attempts in these 20 years to exonerate Adnan without any success.
However, the unabashed bias within the story narrative united all of them. I wonder whether or not it is possible to do if it doesn't exist. Creating the murderer, with no doubt, is the most tenuous, accompanied by meticulous dependence on several hard facts. Nevertheless, the Case Against Adnan is incomplete because of the absolute absence of voices - nobody from this prosecution gets involved, and there exists a surprising ignorance of families of victims who are still persuaded of the guilt of Adnan.
But all of this rests on the assumption that you’re on board with his innocence. While Koenig made the excellent choice to avoid passing opinion in Serial, Berg is very obviously on his side.
