Netflix has officially announced that Narnia: The Magician's Nephew will roar onto the big screen with a massive worldwide theatrical debut on February 12 2027. Directed by Oscar nominated filmmaker Greta Gerwig the film marks the long awaited return of C.S. Lewis beloved fantasy world to theaters. Sneak previews in IMAX begin February 10 2027 and the movie will arrive on Netflix two months later on April 2 2027.
This news comes after a delay from its original November 2026 target. The shift gives the film a full seven week exclusive run in theaters an unusual move for a Netflix production and one that fans of the Chronicles of Narnia series are celebrating.

What Makes This Adaptation Special
The Magician's Nephew serves as the origin story for the entire Narnia universe. It follows young Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer as they stumble into a magical world through a series of enchanted rings. Audiences will witness the creation of Narnia the birth of Aslan and the very first adventures that set the stage for The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. Gerwig known for her fresh takes in Barbie and Little Women brings her signature blend of heart humor and visual wonder to this high fantasy tale.
Star Studded Cast
The film boasts an impressive ensemble including Carey Mulligan Meryl Streep Daniel Craig and Emma Mackey. While specific roles remain under wraps early reports suggest the cast will bring both familiar and new faces to the land of Narnia. Filming wrapped in late January 2026 and the project sits in post production with a reported budget of around 200 million dollars.
Why a Global Eventized Release Matters
Netflix is treating this release as a true cinematic event. The movie will open wide in IMAX and theaters across the globe rather than a limited rollout. This approach lets families and longtime fans experience the magic on the biggest screens possible before it heads to streaming. It also signals Netflix growing commitment to giving its biggest titles a proper theatrical window.
What Fans Can Expect
Early details promise stunning visuals of the Wood Between the Worlds the creation of Narnia and the iconic lamppost that connects worlds. Expect a mix of practical effects and cutting edge CGI to capture the wonder and danger of the story. Gerwig has emphasized staying faithful to the spirit of Lewis books while making the adventure feel fresh for a new generation.
With its February 2027 theatrical debut Narnia: The Magician's Nephew is shaping up to be one of the biggest family blockbusters of the year. Mark your calendars for what promises to be a roaring return to the world of Narnia.
