“Dil Bechara” is an official remake of Hollywood film “The Fault In Our Stars” (2014). The remake stars Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjana Sanghi in central characters.

The upcoming Bollywood film Dil Bechara has been garnering a lot of attention lately. The movie was earlier scheduled to hit the marquee in the month of November. But then came the news that the makers were contemplating a digital release for the film instead of a theatrical one. However, soon the makers announced a new release date of the movie. Recently, Fox Star Studios took to social media and revealed that Dil Bechara will now enter theatres on 8th May, 2020.

But if sources are to be believed, the makers can still change their plan and premiere the movie directly on OTT platforms. A source close to the project informs an entertainment portal, “Fox Star Studios has pitched Dil Bechara to Amazon Prime. The negotiations are going on in full swing but both parties are yet to reach a consensus with regards to the economics of the deal. This is the reason why Fox has postponed the film’s theatrical release by 6 months, although it is ready since sometime. This is their way of buying time so that the deal with Amazon Prime can be locked. If Fox Star Studios manages to get the OTT platform agree to the terms and money they are demanding, then the theatrical release of Dil Bechara will be shelved and it will directly release on Amazon Prime. If not, then it will release on May 8 next year as scheduled.”

Dil Bechara stars Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjana Sanghi in lead roles, and marks the directorial debut of renowned casting director Mukesh Chhabra. The film is an official remake of the immensely popular Hollywood film The Fault In Our Stars (2014). When asked what led Fox Star Studios to not release the film in theatres, the source answered, “It is wrong to assume here that the makers are planning its direct OTT release because the film is not up to the mark. The movie is quite touching but at the same time, it is too depressing and niche. Hence, Fox management is worried that they might not be able to recover their costs, should the film release in cinemas. Therefore, they approached Amazon Prime, hoping that they will give them a good deal which will ensure profitability for them.”
