Director Karan Johar is currently celebrating the 21st anniversary of his romantic megahit Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The film featured famous actors Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol along with Rani Mukerji as the main characters.
As a scintillating romance that delivered an ersatz Riverdale to India which includes King Khan as the dreamy Archie Andrews, the movie has gained the status of iconic through the years. The flick is often referred to and commented on. Also, it is of impossibility to deny the effect that the movie, or the moviemaking brand, had on the Indian theatre.
Karan posted on Twitter as the film reaches more than two-decade years old and gave congratulatory comments on which proved him as a filmmaker, “Firsts are always special! The cast, crew, music & the heart & soul of this film was all in the right place. Thank you for making this journey a timeless one even after 21yrs!#21YearsOfClassicKKHH.”
Many things have taken place over 21 years. The multi-hyphenate Karan Johar, the Bollywood power center has even mentioned a possible recreation of the cult film. In the event of 21 years with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (KKHH), here are a number of interesting facts the movie has.
1. Karan Johar aspires to cast these actors in the remake of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
A couple of months ago, director Karan Johar expressed his aspiration to witness Alia Bhatt take on the role of Anjali in the reboot. Talking at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, he shared,
“On my wishlist would be Ranveer Singh as Rahul, he has that mad intensity as Shah Rukh Khan; Alia Bhatt as Anjali - she has the spunk and Janhvi Kapoor as Tina because she has the poise and balance of the part.”
2. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Tabu and Urmila Matondkar turned down KKHH
Karan Johar had unveiled at the same that he had offered from Tabu, Aishwarya Rai to Urmila Matondkar for his movie, only to be brushed off by them. He detailed, “Ash was the only one who was polite to call me back.”
3. Rani Mukerji was recommended by Aditya Chopra
The director had spilled the beans that, “it took months to cast for Rani’s part after Aditya Chopra recommended me her name.”
Rani Mukerji portrayed SRK’s on-screen wife who passes away soon after their daughter was born. The two’s daughter is named after Anjali (played by Kajol), Andrew’s best friend.
4. Shah Rukh Khan once called the film a "crap story"
The acclaimed actor had shared in the 20th anniversary of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,
“Karan came and narrated an utterly nonsense crap story to me; which is certainly not the one that finally you people saw in the film. In his strange way Karan, the man with many words, tried to impress me with his crap story. So yes, I really did not understand the story when I signed in and I am glad that I did not get into the story and just went ahead with the conviction of Karan, otherwise the film would have not been the way it came out.”
5. The short dress Rani wore was adjusted to make the actress look hot
As said by an IANS report, Rani Mukerji’s short dress in Koi Mil Gaya track was designed by Manish Malhotra and it originally had a length to the knee. Nevertheless, Karan Johar wanted her to put on a hot look in the film, so it was altered to his suggestion.
Both Manish and Karan were astonished by the fact that the actor performed so comfortably in it.
6. The romantic scene of Anupam Kher and Archana Puran Singh was edited out
In a Hindustan Times interview, Archana Puran had disclosed that there was a shot that never made it to the movie. The actress shared,
“where Malhotra (Anupam Kher) and Ms. Braganza would meet at the railway station after many years and they have both greyed. The song playing in the background would have been Waqt Ne Kia Kaisa Sitam. That would have been the culmination of their romance. We never shot it because the film had stretched quite long.”
7. The cast got flowers and welcome notes on every single schedule
Also in an HT talk, Farida Jalal shared, “Karan had his own way of explaining a scene. He would emote every scene, which he does even now! It was so much fun.”
She detailed, “At every schedule, we were greeted with flowers and a welcome note. It was a very special film.”
