The Simpsons showrunner Al Jean Removes Reports Of Eliminating Apu's Character Amid Racism Row

There’s been a Twitter firestorm raging over the fate of the iconic Simpsons character, Apu.

The maker of The Simpsons, Al Jean dismissed the debate over racist caricature surrounding fans favorite Apu Nahasapeemapetilon.

Adi Shankar, the producer and Youtuber, last week unveiled that The Simpsons plans to wipe out the Apu character in the next episode.  The news came from two staff who work on the show and a third source who directly runs the Simpsons with Matt Groening.

The scripters also kept on removing the news that claimed the character will be banished from Springfield.

The Simpsons is a record-breaker in regard to longevity and regarded as one of the most powerful TV episodes of all time. There is no doubt that it has stirred up troubles and concerns for rather different reasons in the past few years. Recently, it has been criticized for describing an Indian store owner who has thick yet vague South Asian accent since comedian Hari Kondabolu launched  'The Problem with Apu', a 2017 documentary.

He said that the stereotypical portrayal of Apu meant people poke fun at him.

In regard to critics, The Simpsons writer tried to ward off the criticism in the show No Good Read Goes Unpunished; however, they failed to smooth over the viewers. Moreover, their response did not went down well.

Meanwhile, Caucasian American Hank Azaria, the voice behind Apu, told he would be willing to step down from the role. He shared that he had paid attention to the controversy surrounding the character for a long time.

There has been no official affirmation in terms of what will happen to Apu or whether he last appeared in an episode on October 14th.
