India has recorded 125 cases positive with coronavirus while in the world, there have been 182,611 infected cases up to now. Since the pandemic has no signals of stopping, Met Gala 2020 follows Cannes Film Festival to be put on the back burner. This action has been implemented to fight against the rapid spread of the dangerous virus.
Editor Anna Wintour wrote on Vogue magazine a notice that read: "Due to the unavoidable and responsible decision by the Metropolitan Museum to close its doors, About Time, and the opening night gala, will be postponed to a later date."
Since 2005, Met Gala under administration and management of Conde Nast's Anna Wintour has gained a lot of achievements. Formed as an event to raise funds from celebrities for The Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, it is held on the initial Monday of May annually.
Last Friday, there was an announcement from the Metropolitan Museum about closing temporarily. After that, many people speculated that Met Gala 2020 would not take place as scheduled. Yesterday, a spokesperson of the place continued to announce the museum's shutting through April 4th.
Not only Cannes or Met Gala 2020, but several other Hollywood events and programmes also have to follow the advice from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). According to this association, people should not gather together in a group of 50 for the next two months.
Opposing to the advice, the Zee Cine Awards still took place in Mumbai on March 13th. In the event, actors Ranveer Singh and Hrithik Roshan performed their dancing. On the other hand, organizers didn't allow the general public and also skipped the red carpet.
Prior to Met Gala 2020 postponement, the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) also announced its cancelation due to the coronavirus outbreak. In a statement, the organizers informed that they will announce another date to hold IIFA in Madhya Pradesh as soon as possible.
