Fans can expect the same mix of romance, family tension, and lavish lifestyles that defined the film.

HBO has greenlit an eight-episode drama series that continues the story of the 2018 hit film Crazy Rich Asians. The project will pick up after the events of the movie, which became one of the highest-grossing Hollywood romantic comedies of its era.

Constance Wu and Henry Golding will return as series regulars, reprising their roles as Rachel Chu and Nick Young. Ronny Chieng is also set to star again as Eddie Cheng. Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh will appear in a recurring capacity as Eleanor Young.

Adele Lim, who co-wrote the original film, will serve as showrunner and executive producer. She is joined by director Jon M. Chu, author Kevin Kwan, and producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson. Production is expected to begin in 2027.

Lim described the series as a family reunion that gives the creative team more room to explore the characters and worlds from Kwan’s books. “This series is the sequel we’ve been waiting for, but instead of just one movie, we get eight episodes,” she said.

Chu has noted that fans have asked about a sequel almost every day since the film’s release. The TV format allows the team to expand the story beyond the constraints of a single feature.

The original movie, based on Kwan’s bestselling novel, featured an all-Asian cast and grossed more than $239 million worldwide. A theatrical sequel had been discussed for years but never moved forward. The new series now takes its place as the official continuation.

No premiere date has been announced. Fans can expect the same mix of romance, family tension, and lavish lifestyles that defined the film, now stretched across a full season of hour-long episodes.
