U.S Hit Crazy Rich Asians Fails To Dazzle Chinese Audiences

Crazy Rich Asians failed to make an impression on its opening weekend as it headed to the box office in China.
'Crazy Rich Asians' film has made its debut in China this weekend. While the movie was a smash success in the U.S, earning $173 million domestically despite the theme of rising Asian prosperity and all-Asian cast, it failed to ignite the Chinese box office. Released four months after its US release, 'Crazy Rich Asians' took just $1.1 million in its first three days in China market, trailing behind indie flick 'Venom' and 'A Cool Fish'.
Wei Junzi, a Chinese film industry veteran, says the film revolves around Southeast Asian culture, which has little connection for mainland Chinese, regardless of the all-Asian cast.
For a long time of releasing, the film turned out in other big territories. However, the main cause may lie in the fact that Chinese audiences are not crazy about this work. One user wrote on Douban.
The crom-top style film based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Kevin Kwan, follows a Chinese-American woman, travelling with her boyfriend to Singapore.
