Recently, Joel Edgerton’s “gay conversion” film “Boy Erased” has released its first trailer. The film is based on a memoir of the same name by Garrard Conley, published in 2016. It stars accomplished actors such as Lucas Hedges, Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe. Boy Erased chronicles the story of Jared Eamons (played by Lucas Hedges), a young boy living in a small town in Arkansas.

Like any other teenager, he has a loving family and a beautiful girlfriend. His father (played by Russel Crowe) is a car dealer and a Baptist minister, who preaches family value. His mother (played by Nicole Kidman) is a hairdresser.

Jared has a secret he never wants anyone to know that he is gay. However, when he is raped by a fellow student (played by Joe Alwyn) and his parents find out about this, he must confront his sexual orientation. As a Baptist, his parents consider this is a sin and he needs to be cured.

Therefore, they decide that it would be best if Jared took part in a gay conversion therapy, the traumatic practice of trying to fix or cure homosexuality. After that, Jared is forced to complete the program otherwise he will be kicked out of the family and shunned.
