Well-known filmmaker Vishal Bharadwaj is planning his next directorial venture. He last helmed Pataakha (2018), a tale of two constantly warring sisters, starring Sanya Malhotra and Radhika Madan in lead roles. Though the film received great critical response, it failed to do commercially well at the box-office. After the debacle of Pataakha, Vishal Bhardwaj was planning a film with newcomer Ishaan Khatter who made his acting debut with Majid Majidi's Beyond The Clouds (2017). However, the project could not materialize for a variety of reasons.
The latest we hear that Vishal Bhardwaj is the next Bollywood filmmaker to jump on the sequel bandwagon. Yes, you heard it absolutely right! Rumours are rife in the tinsel town of Bollywood that a sequel to his 2009 release Kaminey is on the anvil. The film featured Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in principal roles.
A source in the know tells a popular publication, “Vishal has a script idea for a film which could take the franchise ahead and it is called Maha Kaminey. He recently applied for the title with the Indian Motion Pictures Producers’ Association. Shahid played the roles of Guddu and Charlie in the original film, and he will be continuing to reprise that role in case Vishal and he decided to work together again after Shahid wraps Jersey.”
Reportedly, Maha Kaminey will revolve around twin characters, which were given birth to by Priyanka Chopra in the first film. The source goes on to add, “The film did have an open ending with the birth of the twins and that option is now being explored. Kaminey also had some brilliant songs and the idea of a franchise has excited everyone who was in the first part.”
Meanwhile, Shahid Kapoor is busy preparing for his next film, which is an official remake of Telugu blockbuster Jersey (2019). The actor will be playing a cricketer in the movie.
