For the initial time in B-town, Vidya Balan got many criticisms for her fashion sense and appearance. Later, when starting as heroines in some films with powerful scripts, she was welcomed by the audience. But, from that time also, she felt that films featuring A-list male stars haven't called her for once.
During an interview with a leading daily, the actress opened up:
"At some point, I felt I'm not being considered for mainstream A-lister superstar films. But I was enjoying the content and being the whole and soul of a film so much that I did choose this over that. But look at it, Mission Mangal has happened and it's not just a romantic lead. It's a prominent role and this is how I'd like it anyway."
Earlier, Vidya shared the screen space with Big B and Salman Khan in some films. But after starring with Arshad Warsi and Naseeruddin Shah in the 2010 film Ishqiya, she often got roles in smaller-budget films. Until 2019, she had a chance to collaborate with Akshay Kumar, an A-list male superstar, in Mission Mangal and made it a big hit of the year.
On the work front, Vidya Balan will portray the lead role in mathematician Shakuntala Devi's biopic. Apart from the actress, Anu Menon's directorial also stars Jisshu Sengupta and Sanya Malhotra. Based on the mathematician's life, Vidya's character in the film will show her ability to use her fingertips to calculate incredibly.
When Shakuntala Devi was just 5, her ability was discovered and well-known as a 'mental calculator' as she could solve a high-school math exercise. Besides this biopic, the 41-year-old actress will be also seen in Sherni directed by Amit Masurkar.
