In a recent interview with PTI, actor Sunny Deol, who has earned reputation from many blockbusters, opened up about his mentality when it comes to acting on set. “I am an instinctive person”, Deol says, “If I hear an interesting story or idea from the director, I will go for it”. He believes that scripts can make him biased, thus making his emotions unnatural, therefore he prefers discussing directly with writers and gets in touch with the thinking process during a shoot.
His intuitive method of acting might seem controversial, alongside with the risk of not knowing the details of the story, this process of Deol may cause some frowned eyebrows. However, with thirty-five years of experience and many blockbusters such as Manzil Manzil (1984), Saveray Wali Gaadi (1986), Sultanat (1986), Dacait (1987), Yateem (1988) amongst many others, no one can argue with his method. According to Deol, the reason behind such a decision is because he loves the movie and enjoys the story as it unfolds. To him, knowing the story beforehand may even do more harm than good to an actor, as it may cause the actor a nervous breakdown before the shoot. He continues by showing respects to actors who show up on set and perform with ease. “Hats off to those who say and do it”, he says.
Sunny Deol is a well-known movie star and the audience can catch his latest performance in Bhaiaji Superhit in which he co-stars with Arshad Warsi and Preity Zinta. Although the movie is an action-comedy, which is the genre that Deol is famous for, he assures that he won’t take this project lightly. The 62 years old actor knows the importance of staying relevant to the new generation and trends, hence his effort to spice up his roles from time to time. “I cannot be a teenager in films”, he says. Deol is well aware of his age and how it impacts his view on the industry, saying that it is ridiculous for him to try to play a college student unless filmmakers are confident with his’s ability to perform such role that they will approach him.
Bhaiaji Superhit, directed by Neerraj Pathak, will be released in the theatre this Friday.
