“Stree” Team Comes Together To Roll Out A New Film

Stree, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles, was one of the most commercially successful films of 2018. Made on a shoestring budget of Rs. 30 crores, the horror-comedy went on to garner a whopping Rs. 182 crore worldwide by the end of its run at the box-office.

Stree was produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films. Over the past few years, the filmmaker has bankrolled a number of successful films based in small-towns. Apart from choosing quirky, small-town stories, Vijan is also known for finding the right talent to helm them. This is why, when he thought of roping in the Stree pair of Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor for a new film of his banner, he chose Gujarati filmmaker Abhishek Jain to helm the project. Jain has directed a number of successful films in Gujarati, some of them include Bey Yaar (2014) and Kevi Rite Jaish (2012).

“Abhishek has worked with Subhash Ghai as well as Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and understands the big cinema universe as well. For Vijan, he was an appropriate choice to direct Shraddha and Rajkummar,” a well-placed source informs a publication.

We hear that Shraddha Kapoor turned down T-Series Films’ much-talked-about horror-comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 since she had already committed to Dinesh Vijan. If everything falls into place, the untitled project will begin production in 2020.

Meanwhile, Dinesh Vijan is presently basking in the earth-shattering success of his latest production venture Bala (2019), starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Bhumi Pednekar and Yami Gautam in lead roles. The film is gearing up to enter the coveted Rs. 100 crore club at the domestic box-office. His next release with yet another horror-comedy titled Roohi-Afza. The film stars Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor in principal characters. Directed by Hardik Mehta, Roohi-Afza is scheduled to hit the marquee on 17^th April, 2020.
