Rani Mukerji has proved it again that nothing can impact her popularity amongst audiences, no matter how long she stays away from celluloid. The immensely talented actress is currently seen in Yash Raj Films’ much-talked-about movie Mardaani 2. As the title suggests itself, the movie is a sequel to the 2014 hit Mardaani, featuring Rani Mukerji in the role of IPS officer Shivani Shivaji Roy.
Mardaani 2, directed by writer-turned-filmmaker Gopi Puthran, hit the marquee on 13th December and has been performing extremely well ever since. While Mardaani 2 is still running to packed houses in several cinemas across the country, talks about Mardaani 3 have already started floating around. Yes, you heard that right! Buzz has it that buoyed up by the thundering response to Mardaani 2, YRF will soon work on the third instalment of the franchise.
When director Gopi Puthran was asked about the third instalment of the franchise, he said that Mardaani 3 will definitely happen. The filmmaker also added that he, Rani Mukerji and producer Aditya Chopra have decided to not ruin the Mardaani universe that they have created and ensure the upcoming stories are told with utmost honesty. He said that they do not want to make stories just for the heck of it. So, Mardaani 3 will definitely happen with a strong subject.
The filmmaker went on to ensure that Rani Mukerji will return to reprise the role of Shivani Shivaji Roy whenever the third part happens. He said that Mardaani is Rani and Rani is Mardaani. He asserts that he cannot think of taking this franchise ahead without her.
Meanwhile, Rani Mukerji will soon start shooting for Yash Raj Films’ next offering Bunty Aur Babli 2, a sequel to her 2005 film Bunty Aur Babli. Set to release in 2020, the sequel also features Saif Ali Khan, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Sharvari.
