Rakul Preet Singh can currently be seen in director Milap Zaveri’s “Marjaavaan”, c0-starring Sidharth Malhotra, Tara Sutaria and Riteish Deshmukh. Singh essays the character of a nautch girl in the movie.

Rakul Preet Singh has undeniably had a good 2019. Her first release of the year was De De Pyaar De (2019) which went on to do fantastic business at the ticket window. Despite the presence of seasoned actors like Ajay Devgn and Tabu, the actress managed to pull off her character brilliantly and received unanimous praises for her performance in the Luv Ranjan-produced affair.

Her second Hindi release Marjaavaan (2019) is currently in cinemas, doing pretty well business all across the country. Though critics panned the movie, the audience in single screens theatres have loved it. It is because of their patronage, Marjaavaan, which also stars Sidharth Malhotra, Tara Sutaria and Riteish Deshmukh, can comfortably recover its production cost and even yield some profits for all the stakeholders involved.

Talking about the character, Rakul Preet Singh plays a nautch girl in the film, named Aarzoo. “My character’s name onscreen is Aarzoo. Everyone is in love with Aarzoo but she is crazy about Raghu (Siddharth Malhotra).”

Elaborating further, the actress goes on to add, “When Milap (Zaveri) had narrated the story to me, he said this is a powerful and special role and can be compared to Rekhaji from Muqaddar Ka Sikandar (1978) and Tabu from Jeet (1996) and Chandramukhi from Devdas (2002). “The exciting factor is that she narrates shayari, and has a typical adah. I have not seen such a role after the ’90s, it was contradicting to De De Pyaar De and is not conventional.”

Rakul Preet Singh reveals that the huge success of De De Pyaar De helped her find more work in Bollywood. “People liked my character and I got a lot of calls after the film released. People said I was good with Ajay and Tabu, which was my biggest sense of satisfaction. There are three films I have signed and will discuss them soon,” she says in conclusion.
