“Good Newwz” Takes The Domestic Box-Office By Storm

“Good Newwz”, starring Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani in central characters, has collected Rs. 39.34 crores within two days of its theatrical release.

Good Newwz, the romantic comic-caper from the house of Dharma Productions, has taken the domestic box-office by storm. Starring Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani in lead roles, the movie hit the marquee on 27th December and earned Rs. 17.50 crores on its opening day. It witnessed more than a 30 percent jump on Saturday, raking in Rs 21.78 crores. The total earnings of Good Newwz currently stands at an impressive Rs. 39.34 crores for two days. It is expected to close out its first weekend around Rs. 65 crores.

Good Newwz has been directed by Raj Mehta. It marks his directorial debut. Previously, he has been an assistant director on Dharma Productions’ Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017) and Kapoor & Sons (2016). The movie was riding high on pre-release buzz which translated into great footfalls upon the release.

Good Newwz has opened slightly lower than Akshay Kumar’s Diwali release Housefull 4 (2019)which had racked up around Rs 18.85 crore on the opening day. But since it is made on a very controlled budget, the opening figure of the film is quite impressive. As per trade sources, Good Newwz has a budget of approximately Rs. 60 crores while Housefull 4 was mounted on a massive budget of Rs 175 crore. Moreover, Good Newwz released during the times when several parts of the country facing extensive protests against CAA and NRC protests.

Good Newwz revolves around two couples who decide to become parents through IVF. However, during the insemination process at an upmarket IVF centre in Mumbai, their sperm mix up with each other. What happens next forms the crux of the story. The film has been received well across all centres, especially in multiplexes in metros. It is expected to become a blockbuster by the end of its theatrical run.
