From "Kalank" To "Notebook", Kashmir Is Definitely The Ideal Shooting Location For Bollywood Films

With its picturesque locale and breathtaking landscape, Kashmir has become one of the the ideal shooting locations of many Bollywood films.

Kashmir, which is most known as the Paradise on Earth, has become the ideal shooting location of many Bollywood films. Although the shooting schedules for the forthcoming movies have recently been put on hold due to the Article 370 of the Constitution in an attempt to change the state’s status, the popular destinations that we have seen in movies such as snow-capped mountains, boathouses, lush green meadows have still remained.

It goes without saying that Kashmir has left an unforgettable impression in many Bollywood filmmakers as they have time and again returned here to capture the breathtaking landscape as well as rekindle the old romance with the state. Today, let’s take a look at some recent movies such as Notebook, Kalank, Raazi among others that were filmed in Kashmir.

Notebook

The Nitin Kakkar directorial film marked the silver screen debut of Pranutan Bahl and Zaheer Iqbal. The romantic flick is the love story of a man who falls in love with a woman without ever having met her and delivers a meaningful message that you can find love in the most unexpected situations and places.

Apart from the great music and gripping storyline, the brilliant cinematography was also one of the biggest strengths of the film. Manoj Kumar Khatoi managed to encapsulate the magical beauty of Kashmir in every scene, which is so beautiful and vivid from the colors of Chinar, the sounds of shikra to the calmness of the lake.

In a review of Hindustan Times, the writer described the spectacular beauty of the area, as saying,

Raazi

Considered as one of the most memorable films of Alia Bhatt, the movie revolves around a young spy girl named Sehmat who gets married to Pakistani Army officer Iqbal Syed to extract information for her country.

Filmmaker Meghna Gulzar shot some significant sequences of the film in Pahalgam including the song Dilbaro with Kashmiri lyrics which showcased the picturesque journey of Alia’s character Sehmat from her home in Kashmir to Pakistan.

During the shoot, Alia Bhatt also took to her social media handle to share some of the photos from her discussion with Meghna in the middle of the pristine mountains covered with snow, her ride with a friend or her morning at one nearby hotel.

Kalank

After Raazi, Alia had a chance to return to Kashmir for another film titled Kalank which tells the story of six people who are connected by love and revenge. The actress shot some important scenes of the film in Kargil.

Alia also posted a photo in which she can be seen posing with her team in the airport shuttle bus and captioned it, “Kargil Calling”. Meanwhile, her co-star Varun Dhawan also shared a snap from their flight and wrote, “KALANK Off to Kargil”.

Romeo Akbar Walter

The spy drama featuring John Abraham in the lead was shot in certain popular locations of Kashmir and Gulmarg was one of them. Many other movies also shot in the beautiful state include 3 Idiots, Highway, Tubelight, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Aiyaary, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Fitoor, and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.

Bard of Blood, web series

Apart from movies, Kashmir also becomes the preferred shooting locations for Emraan Hashmi’s forthcoming web series titled Bard of Blood which is produced by Shahrukh Khan.
