Director Meghna Gulzar Reveals The Reason Why She Chooses Deepika Padukone Over Alia Bhatt

Ever since the first trailer was out, it has created quite a buzz among the audiences.

In the year 2018, director Meghna Gulzar and Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt teamed up with each other in Raazi and the film soon turned out to be a super hit. As they already had successful collaboration, many think that Meghna will continue to choose Alia to play the heroine for her upcoming and very sensitive project Chhapaak. However, she decided to work with Deepika Padukone rather than Alia Bhatt as many expected. Recently, the helmer went on record to give a valid explanation for the same.

The filmmaker has revealed that she wanted to talk about the choice of the lead actress in her film based on the life of an acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. Ever since the first trailer was out, it has created quite a buzz among the audiences. It’s stealing the hearts of millions of viewers with the sensitive and heart-touching portrayal of a strong woman. Bollywood diva Deepika who also steps into a producer’s shoes will essay the role of Malti.

In a recent interview with Mumbai Mirror, Meghna said,

The director further added that during the research, she found pictures of Laxmi Agarwal before the accident which are strikingly similar to DP’s when the actress was young.

Recently, during the trailer launch of the film, Deepika Padukone could be seen tearing up. The star called the film the most special project in her career. After the trailer launch, she was called on stage though she couldn’t hold back her tears.

Meghna Gulzar who was standing next to the actress requested the cameramen to not take pictures of Deepika as she was trying to compose herself. The film is slated to hit the screens on 10 January 2020. Stay tuned for more updates from us!
