Deepika Padukone Talks About Playing Romi Dev In Ranveer Singh’s Sports Drama “83”

Deepika Padukone has joined the cast of the upcoming sports film “83”, starring her husband Ranveer Singh in the role of legendary cricketer Kapil Dev. The actress will play Kapil Dev’s wife Romi Dev in the Kabir Khan directorial.

Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh together form one of the most successful onscreen pairs of Indian cinema. They have previously worked together on such movies as Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram Leela (2013), Bajirao Mastani (2015) and Padmaavat (2018) and all of them hit the jackpot at the cash counter. Now, the duo has joined hands once again to star in the much-awaited sports film, 83.
Directed by renowned filmmaker Kabir Khan, the movie chronicles Indian cricket team’s historic win in the 1983 Cricket World Cup tournament. Ranveer Singh plays legendary cricketer Kapil Dev in the biographical film. It was Kapil under whose captainship India lifted the World Cup trophy in 1983.
Deepika Padukone, who has just finished shooting for her hotly anticipated film, Chhapaak, with successful filmmaker Meghna Gulzar, has joined the cast of 83 to play Kapil Dev’s wife, Romi Dev, in the movie.
Sharing the excitement of joining the team of 83, Deepika told an Indian daily,
83 is the first film that Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh are doing post their grand wedding in November last year. When the actress was asked if the fact that they both are married to each other now change anything for them as actors, she said,
Besides Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, 83 also stars Tahir Raj Bhasin, Saqib Saleem, Ammy Virk, Sahil Khattar, Chirag Patil, Harrdy Sandhu and Pankaj Tripathi, among others. The movie is slated to roll into theatres on 10th April, 2020.
