The much-anticipated sequel to the 1997 classic Border, titled Border 2, continues its impressive run at the Indian box office.

Directed by Anurag Singh and featuring a stellar cast including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, the film delves into the heroism of Indian soldiers during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. Released on January 23, 2026, coinciding with Republic Day weekend, it has captivated audiences with its patriotic themes, intense action sequences, and powerful performances.

As of Day 9, which falls on the second Saturday, early trends indicate a strong performance despite being a weekday-like start in the morning. The film collected approximately 8.42 crore net on Day 9, with an average occupancy of 19 percent across Hindi screenings. This brings the total India net collection to 243.42 crore after nine days. The India gross stands at 281.56 crore, while worldwide figures are projected to exceed 323 crore, including robust overseas earnings of around 41 crore.

Day-Wise Box Office Collection

  • Day 1 (Friday): 30 crore net
  • Day 2 (Saturday): 36.50 crore net
  • Day 3 (Sunday): 54.50 crore net
  • Day 4 (Monday, Republic Day): 59 crore net (peak day)
  • Day 5 (Tuesday): 20 crore net
  • Day 6 (Wednesday): 13 crore net
  • Day 7 (Thursday): 11.25 crore net
  • Day 8 (Friday): 10.75 crore net
  • Day 9 (Saturday): 8.42 crore net (early estimates)

The first week alone netted 224.25 crore in India, ranking it 11th among the highest-opening weeks for Hindi films, just behind War's 228.50 crore. Compared to Sunny Deol's previous blockbuster Gadar 2, which earned 284.63 crore in its first week, Border 2 has shown sharper drops post-holiday but maintains steady footfalls, crossing 1.15 crore admissions in eight days.

Several factors contribute to this success. The film's release timing leveraged national pride during Republic Day, drawing family audiences and mass centers. Positive word-of-mouth, especially praising the ensemble cast's chemistry and high-octane war scenes, has fueled repeat viewings. On social media, users are buzzing with excitement, highlighting the film's excellent hold and strong advance sales for the weekend.

Looking ahead, projections suggest Border 2 could aim for 325 to 350 crore net in India, with a worldwide lifetime potentially hitting 500 crore, given no major competition in the coming weeks. For Varun Dhawan, this marks his highest-grosser, surpassing Dilwale's 148.72 crore lifetime. As the second weekend progresses, the film remains a testament to Bollywood's enduring appeal for patriotic narratives. If trends continue, Border 2 might just rewrite records in the war drama genre.
