The trailer of Batla House was released on Wednesday in Mumbai. The story revolves around one of the most controversial encounters which took place in Batla House, Jamia Nagar of New Delhi on 19 September 2008.
Two alleged terrorists linked with Indian Mujahideen were killed in the encounter while two others were arrested. Delhi police inspector Mohan Chand Sharma was martyred during the shootout. The raid on the house took place six days after five low-intensity blasts shook New Delhi.
The encounter of two Muslim youths led to protests. The events took a political turn and the film would portray many politicians which disregarded the encounter and called it as "fake".
"We will be showing the stand taken by politicians after the encounter took place", said John Abraham. He will be seen portraying the role of a cop. He will be seen in the role of Sanjeev Kumar, head of the operations during Batla House encounter.
Written by Ritesh Shah and directed by Nikkhil Advani, the film unfolds the true events. He has previously directed D Day and Satyameva Jayate. Batla House will be released on August 15. Nora Fatehi will make her mainstream acting debut in this film.
Actress Mrunal Thakur will be seen in her second film after Super 30. Ravi Kishan and Prakash Raj will play pivotal roles in the film.
When asked if the political drama after the encounter has been portrayed in the film, Nikkhil Advani said, "Digvijay Singh, Amar Singh, Arvind Kejriwal, and many other politicians have been portrayed in the film. You will have to watch it and know about it."
John Abraham's Batla House and Akshay Kumar's Mission Mangal and Saaho are set for a box office clash on Independence Day, to which John said, "Honestly, there was a controversy I would have loved to create it but Akshay and I are very good friends and we get along well. We were texting each other a couple of days back. In fact, we are giving the audience a lot of options to choose when they enter a multiplex."
