Sayani said she picked meaty characters in independent movies rather than less stimulating mainstream roles.

After drama film Mulk, director Anubhav Sinha had offered the actress a role in his new comedy project. However, things didn’t go as planned and then Article 15 happened.

As per Sayani, director Anubhav was at first somewhat uncertain to give her a role as a Dalit lady in the drama-crime show, after her last excursion as a charming young lady in the Four More Shots series.

The movie, with Ayushmann Khurrana playing the protagonist, is made following Indian Constitution’s Article 15 which precludes judgment on grounds of race, religion, sex, class, sex or birthplace.

Sayani Gupta keeps the faith that Anubhav has exhibited a fair interpretation of discrimination through the movie.
