2021 Grammy Award is definitely a big year for people of color in general and African artists in particular. While Beyonce’s 8-year-old daughter Blue Ivy makes headlines for MV Brown Skin Girl, the spotlight also goes to two other Nigerian music artists Burna Boy and Wizkid. Burna Boy
Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, well-known for his alias Burna Boy, is a 30 year-old music artist originally from Nigeria. Apart from being a talented singer, rapper and songwriter, he is also popular as a skillful dancer. Before winning the Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album in 2021, the singer was nominated in the same category in 2019 but lost it to the hand of Angelique Kidjo, another African singer.
After working in the music industry for 9 years, he has bagged a lot of big hits like On The Low (2019), Ye (2018), Anybody (2019) and many others.
Wizkid
Another Nigerian singer and songwriter who went home with a Grammy Award this year is Wizkid. Marking his debut with Superstar album in 2011, the singer and songwriter quickly soared into stardom and became one of the biggest R&B singers of the country. In addition to that, the African artist also went global and made collaborations with international artists like Drake or Chris Brown.
In 2019, he made a collab with the world’s most famous diva Beyonce, her daughter Blue Ivy and Saint JHN in Brown Skin Girl single which praised the beauty of African women. The single won the Grammy Award of Best Music Video.
