The fact that two movies Viswasam and Petta are premiered on the same day initially caused numerous criticisms for their filmmakers. The box-office clash between the two films is forecast to be fierce. However, this bold determination seems to bring benefits to both flicks.

Undeniably, one extremely great advantage of Siva's Viswasam and Karthik Subbaraj G.'s Petta is their same-day launch right on the occasion of Pongal, Tamil Nadu's popular harvest festival. With a 4-day Pongal season, both of Viswasam and Petta has become box-office hits.

Petta starring the veteran actor Rajinikanth is considered as Tamil box office's new record. One week earlier, Tirupur Subramanian, an experienced movie distributor, predicted that Petta would become reaching the Rs 100 crores mark after 11 days of its launch.

Nonetheless, the distributors of Viswasam, Petta's the direct competitor, have declared that Viswasam has raked in Rs 125 crore merely in 8 days. Anyway, such figures show that the two will become the blockbusters before the end of their premieres.

Currently, Rajinikanth is immersed in happiness after Petta's remarkable triumph. Rumour has it that the 68-year-old actor has asked the director Karthik Subbaraj to write a different screenplay for him. In the meantime, he is in collaboration with the director AR Murugadoss on another film, which will be started shooting in February.
