K-Pop superstar Seung-ri, a member of one of the most prominent South Korean boyband BIG BANG, has been charged with ‘supplying prostitutes’ to business investors through his Seoul club, Burning Sun. The musician who denies all the charges recently announced that he would quit from the show business to protect his group BIG BANG as well as his backing entertainment agency, YG Entertainment.
A local police spokesman stated during a recent press conference,
The charges, which would be a three-year jail sentence, follow a police raid at the club on Sunday night. Shares of his agency YG entertainment fell as much as 15.6 percent on Monday.
After a video of an assault occurring at the club circulated online, Seoul police announced that they were investing at the property. The police have also alleged staff of supplying drugs for patrons and bribing VIP customers with drug-addled women. However, the star denied any role or knowledge.
A series of text messages back in 2015 emerged online. These showed the artist with three other men discussing the potential bribery.
The 28-year-old singer took to Instagram to announce his retirement from the showbiz and apologize for his fans. Seung-ri also wrote he had been branded a “traitor to the nation,” as per a report from Reuters.
