These past three years marked several names of movies that reached Rs 100-crore, such as Jolly LLB 2 (2017), Sanju (2018), Simmba (2018). This year witnessed a significant increase in the number of the list of 100-crore films. Among those, there are three movies convincingly overcoming Rs 200 crores.
A good start
Uri: The Surgical Strike opened 2019 with lots of expectations and finally reached Rs 244 crores at the box office. After that, Total Dhamaal and Gully Boy closed February with Rs 150 and Rs 134 crores respectively.
In March, there were two movies, Kesari and Bharat starring Salman Khan, crossing the Rs 150 crores mark. And of course, we must mention Kabir Singh, released the same month, exploded the box office with Rs 331.24 crores - the highest figure of 2019 up to now.
What is going on?
A few months later, we have Super 30 got Rs 172.68 at the domestic ticket sales. It is predicted that the rate of the movie's revenue will slightly get higher at the end. We also have two blockbusters Batla House and Mission Mangal this month.
Even though the former doesn't seem to have a good beginning, with only Rs 54.49 crores, Mission Mangal "touched" Rs 107.56 crores within five days. However, Batla House does have great reviews, so just wait! According to Komal Nahta - a trade analyst, 2019 will end up good with great films coming ahead.
Biggies that we can not miss
Even though there are still movies that haven't meet the standard to join the club of 100-crore films, they are expected to reach the number soon. De De Pyaar De and Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi gained Rs 94 crores and Rs 90 crores respectively. Besides, Luka Chuppi with Rs 88 crores and Badla with Rs 87 crores are also worth-to-wait hits.
Stories collecting in numbers
Here is a fact, the three biggest movies this year - Kabir Singh, Uri, and Mission Mangal still set the ticket sales "on fire" without the power of any superstars. Exhibitor Akshaye Rathi insisted on the importance of the script. He observed that even though Mission Mangal had the presence of the famous actor - Akshay Kumar, the story of five women on Mars is the main factor attributing to the success of the film.
A popular name does give continuous numbers because of the fan, but now, a great script is what maintains the long life of a movie. He took an example of Aamir Khan's Thugs of Hindostan didn't bring about a good result as expected.
Upcoming projects that are worth waiting
It seems to be that, for the rest of the year, the industry only hears good news as War starring Tiger Shroff and Hrithik Roshan and many others are about to explode the widescreen. Meanwhile, the production team of Ayushman Khurranna’s Dream Girl has been working hard to release the movie this September.
Moreover, the film addict has lots of movies to wait for like Dabangg 3 or Housefull 4.
So, as you saw, there are tons of events happening within the first nine months of 2019. There is good news but, unavoidably, bad news. After all, the positive appears to outweigh the negative one as we have lots of promising projects ahead.
What is coming next? Will the industry witness another blockbuster like Kabir Singh? Grab your popcorn and don't miss any news!
