Union cabinet minister Smriti Irani praised Taapsee Pannu's upcoming film Thappad. In a recent post on social media, Smriti Irani praised the story line of the film and praised the filmmakers for touching such a brilliant issue. Thappad, apart from Taapsee, stars Pavail Gulati, Dia Mirza, Ratna Pathak Shah, Tanvi Azmi, Geetika Vidya, Maya Sarao, Naila Grewal, Kumud Mishra and Gracy Goswami in the lead roles. Thappad is produced by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series along with director Anubhav Sinha and Benaras Mediaworks. It is scheduled to release on February 28, 2020. Netizens have also claimed that the film is a tight slap to Shahid Kapoor's film Kabir Singh.
In the post Smriti Irani posted the trailer of Thappad and assured that she will definitely watch the film and will also urge others to watch it too. She cleared her stand saying that not even a slap has to be accepted by a woman. Violence is not the solution to resolve fight between a man and woman. She pointed out that an educated man if often believed that he will not raise his hand on a woman. She also discouraged parents of a woman who faces violence from their husband. Taapsee Pannu after learning about the shout out from Union Minister, she said that the team of Thappad will be pleased to show her the film. She also said that though they do not connect on political ideologies but they connect with each other on this issue. The actress was happy that the Union Minister has liked the trailer and is willing to watch the film.
Recently, in an interview with director Anubhav Sinha, he said that the film has been made for men and women and about their marriages. The movie tackles issues which has been taken as normal but are not pointed out as incorrect. Sinha chose the location as Lucknow because he likes the city. Men and women often tend to not realize their mistakes despite knowing that its incorrect. The film has been shot in five cities Bhopal, Lucknow, Delhi, Jaipur, and Mumbai.
