Sushant Singh Rajput is one of a few TV actors who gained success when stepping into Bollywood. This time, Sushant will come back to the silver screen with the Abhishek Chaubey directorial Sonchiriya in which he plays the role of one Chambal dacoit. Interestingly, this is his seventh movie in as many years with M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story being his most successful movie till date.
It can say that Sushant Singh Rajput is one of the busiest actors in the film industry because the star will be seen in as many as four movies this year. The actor was last seen in romantic drama Abhishek Kapoor’s Kedarnath, co-starring with Sara Ali Khan. The film garnered mix reviews from the critics and audiences. However, it managed to perform well at the box office and collected 660 million rupees.
Unlike most of his contemporaries, Sushant Singh Rajput has never taken one over one movie each year. Neither the actor has shown any preference to glamorous roles nor rushed into taking multiple film projects at one time that can grow his popularity and extend his fanbase.
He added that he wanted to have new and great experiences.
Apart from Sonchiriya, Sushant Singh Rajput has other three movies. The first movie is a rom-com Chhichhore which is directed by Nitesh Tiwari. Sushant will play opposite Shraddha Kapoor in the film. The actor will next be the romantic tragicomedy Dil Bechara, which is the adaption of the novel and Hollywood film The Fault In Our Stars. Also, he appears in an action movie named Drive. The movie is produced by Karan Johar and helmed by Tarun Mansukhani. It also features Jacqueline Fernandez in the lead role.
After a successful award-winning role of Manav in the soap opera hit Pavitra Rishta, Sushant Singh Rajput made his Bollywood debut by playing one of the three male leads in the drama Kai Po Che!. The film, which is helmed by Abhishek Kapoor, also featured Amit Sadh and Rajkummar Rao in the lead roles. Although the film could not manage to work well at the domestic box office with a total gross of about 500 million rupees, it was lauded by the critics.
The 33-year-old actor took the most preferred path and rose to prominence in the romantic comedy titled Shuddh Desi Romance opposite Bollywood actress Parineeti Chopra one year later. This film had been made the rounds for a series of kisses and steamy scenes and collected around 460 million rupees at the domestic box office.
Unable to get a footing among the ruling Bollywood brigade, Sushant decided to go into one experimental mode when he played the role of a titular detective in the film Detective Byomkesh Bakshy. While the critics acclaimed the film, it failed to give the actor what he desired when it only collected 270 million rupees at the domestic box office.
Sushant Singh Rajput finally had the chance to enjoy the sweetness of success when getting into the skin of Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the biopic M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story. The movie was a critical and commercial success, becoming one of the highest-grossing Bollywood movies of 2016 with a collection of 1,33 billion rupees. Unfortunately, Sushant’s career took a nosedive when his next outing Raabta bombed at the box office with the gross of only 250 million rupees. Nonetheless, this movie sparkled rumours of his relationship with co-star Kriti Sanon.
Another movie that needs to be mentioned is Chanda Mama Door Ke. In the film, he had to play the role of an astronaut and for which he even took training in NASA, however, he later walked out of the film because of date clashes.
