Ranveer Singh Epic Rap At Gully Boy Launch, Said He Was Born To Do This Film

After the blockbuster Simmba, one of Ranveer's highest earners last year, the actor plays the starring role in the musical movie Gully Boy soon after. Gully Boy is an upcoming production of director Zoya Akhtar and two co-producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. On Wednesday, Ranveer together with his co-star Alia Bhatt appeared at the trailer release day.

In this film, Ranveer Singh stars the role of a street rapper with ambitions and big dreams. More interesting, he also makes a contribution in a small rap part in his second movie Ladies vs Ricky Bahl.

At the trailer launch in Mumbai on Wednesday, he shared that when someone told him about the storyline of the film Gully Boy, he knew that this film is for him. If somebody else was lucky enough to take up this part but not him, he would be jealous of it. "I was born to do Gully Boy and I knew only I can pull off this character." added he.

For the actor, this movie is so special to him due to some reasons. The film is based on Indian music background focusing on hip hop and rap music which are his favourite things when he was still a kid. Moreover, these two music genres have the origins in his motherland Mumbai.

Ranveer's experiences and feelings about members in his film's crew

Talking about working experiences with his team in Gully Boy, he said that he had amazing but still wonderful experiences with director Zoya. She is like a friend of his as well as a confidante. "She is so special to me in my life as a person more than a director."

About the two producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, Ritesh is "like family" to him. He also pays a lot of admiration to Farhan for his creative force. "I have been fielding for him to direct me since eight years now. Hopefully, he will consider me someday." said he.

Gully Boy is the first film Ranveer and Alia have been together. He did not know what to talk about Alia Bhatt. He, however, believed that it was quite lucky to have actress Alia Bhatt as a film's part this time.

As seen in the trailer, Ranveer's character raps every time and the actor did the same thing at the launch. He answered all the questions via rap.

When a journalist asked Zoya about her working experiences with the actor, she shared that Ranveer is really a "method actor". "If he has to rap for a day, then he will rap for the whole day." Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Dil Dhadkne Do are her earlier films set up with urban milieu scenery.

Where did she take inspiration from to make Gully Boy?

The director told that when she was doing with Dil Dhadkne Do film project in 2014, his editor Anand Subaya showed him a video clip about Naezy, a popular rapper in India. He was like at the age of 21 and performed Aafat song. "That’s the first time I saw a real and authentic rap what now is called as Gully Rap. It’s just stuck in my head and from that moment, till now, it’s just took me on a journey to make this film." said she.

Hot stars like Vijay Raaz, Amruta Subhash and Siddhant Chaturvedi will be the key roles. Gully Boy takes inspiration from Divine and Naezy's life. The product from Tiger Baby Productions and Excel Entertainment is slated to release on February 14.
