Emraan Hashmi has done a wide variety of roles in his one and a half-decade long career. From playing a gangster to a dacoit to a ghost, you just name it and changes are there that the handsome star would have already essayed that character in one of his past films. He, however, says that it is amusing that how the audience expects him to play characters that are either gangsters or evil.
Last seen in Bard of Blood, which marked his digital debut, Emraan Hashmi is currently awaiting the release of his next film The Body. In the upcoming thriller, the actor plays the character of a business tycoon who is accused of killing his wife. The Body will be followed by a gangster drama called Mumbai Saga.
Talking to a daily, Emraan Hashmi says that he is amused when people want him to keep playing such characters in movies. “People assume the worst from me all the time. Either I am in a gangster flick or doing some horrendous act like a murder or felony. That's the zone. I cannot play a well-adjusted guy. I am hoping one day I do that. But then you need a very strong script to give it a spin,” says he.
However, the actor is happy that the scenario is changing. "I am happy with the content that is coming out on OTT or other platforms. The audience is evolving, the industry is changing and there is acceptance. Ten years ago, producers were scared to put out anything new. Now they know it is an indication of changing times. There is space for new stuff,” adds the actor.
Besides The Body and Mumbai Saga, Emraan Hashmi also has writer-director Rumi Jaffery’s mystery thriller Chehre, co-starring Amitabh Bachchan. The actor is all praise for his co-star Senior Bachchan. "Working with Bachchan sir was fantastic. We did a 35 day-schedule and now he is coming to shoot in Poland in minus 10 degrees. I asked him the other day, 'Why don't you just chill, because you have proved everything that anyone would hope to prove?’ But he said he is very passionate about what he does. Acting drives him, makes him get up early in the morning and give his all. The day it stops giving me that drive, I'll stop too. It's commendable that at this age, he is so driven. He rehearses on sets, he is always present, completely engaged in the material," he added.
