Anees Bazmee is one of the most successful filmmakers that we have today in Bollywood. He has a number of superhit films to his credit, including No Entry (2005), Welcome (2007) and Singh Is King (2008). The filmmaker is currently busy promoting his next directorial offering Pagalpanti, a rib-tickling comic-caper which features John Abraham, Anil Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, Pulkit Samrat, Ileana D’Cruz, Kriti Kulhari and Urvashi Rautela on its ensemble cast.
During an interaction, Anees Bazmee told the media that he is planning to remake his 2002 psychological thriller Deewangee, starring Ajay Devgn, Akshaye Khanna and Urmila Matondkar. Mostly known for helming multi-starrer comedies, Deewangee was the first film where the filmmaker attempted the suspense genre and emerged victorious.
“Ajay has been telling me to remake Deewangee for a long time now because the film was so good and different. Many times, people come to me and suggest to work on that film. It was my first suspense film and very different from what I have been doing over the years, which is why I am thinking about remaking Deewangee,” says Anees Bazmee.
The filmmaker goes on to add that Ajay Devgn’s character will be more lethal and shrewder this time around. “After so many years, the character will be more mature and stronger. I am working on plotting a good story that suits the character, and Ajay will be my actor to play the role in remake.”
Loosely inspired from the 1996 Hollywood movie Primal Fear, Deewangee received mixed reviews from critics but the audience like the film, especially Ajay Devgn’s performance in a negative role with a split personality disorder. The actor even won the Filmfare Best Villain Award for his villainous act.
Produced by Panorama Studios and T-Series Films, Pagalpanti is slated to enter theatres on 22nd November, 2019. It is one of the most-waited comic-capers of the year.
