Karan Johar, who made his directorial debut with “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai”, is helming a period drama for the first time in his career. The movie starts rolling in a few weeks from now.

Karan Johar, who last directed the Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer Ae Dil Hai Mushkil in 2016, is set to sit on the director’s chair again after a gap of three years. With period drama Takht, he is gearing up to direct the most ambitious film of his directorial career.

Takht has been in news ever since Karan Johar officially announced the project almost a year ago. It boasts of an ensemble star cast which includes the likes of Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranveer Singh, Janhvi Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar and Anil Kapoor.

Takht will be Karan Johar's first historical film as a director

Since Takht is a historical film and involves so many actors, KJo has set aside an astronomical budget of ₹ 250 crore for the making of the film. It is common knowledge that historical films tend to have humongous budget, but Takht seems to be smashing all records of huge production costs and emerge as the costliest historical drama to be made in Bollywood.

According to reports, Karan Johar does not want to compromise on anything as far as his film is concerned. A source in the know informs an entertainment portal that every actor signed on to star in the film is being paid their market price. They would have happily taken a pay cut for Johar’s sake, but the filmmaker insisted on paying them their market price.

Karan Johar is also producing Brahmastra, which is being made on a heavy budget too. But Takht is going to be costlier than the Ayan Mukerji directorial. Reportedly, KJo wanted Ayan to announce the release date of his much-delayed fantasy drama before taking Takht to the floor. Brahmastra is now set to enter theatres on 4 December 2020 and Karan takes Takht before cameras in March 2020. The movie roll into cinemas on Christmas 2021.
