A 75-year-old man from Britain is hoping to reunite with his long-lost Filipino friend to include his name in his will. Verne McLean is at the last stage of prostate cancer and his will is worth £500,000, or nearly $700,000.

The unexpected friendship in a faraway land

The man, who owns half a million pounds of properties wants to give his friend 10 percent although they haven’t met in decades.

Who is the friend that he wants to meet again so badly? This is his story.

The man is looking for an old friend who he lost in touch.

In 1979, Verne McLean, the kind owner of multiple apartments in England, used to be a crane operator in Libya.

In the lunch breaks in the nation, he usually headed to a restaurant close to where he worked. That was the place where he befriended Mar, a Filipino chef.

The Birmingham-hailed man said that the chef would give him extra vegetables as he knows Verne was a vegetarian. And they created a close bond.

The Letter Mar Wrote To Verne Mclean
In 1984, his good friend Mar sent him a letter inviting him to visit Manila, but he was not able to reply.

He said,

"His personality shines. He was a wise boy. Absolutely brilliant. Always smiling, always joking. When you went to their house he was a certain life and soul to the party."

They became good fellows and would visit one another’s apartment in the foreign country. The two also shared mutual friends.

However, Verne McLean got assigned to another nation while Mar’s contract ended and he had to come back to the Philippines.

He missed the only chance and is now desperate to meet his friend

Verne told that his good pal sent him a letter 35 years ago to invite him to Manila. However, he could not reply and it was the last time he heard from Mar.

He said: "I was overseas then. I never responded. I've never written in my life."

When he came back to Britain, Verne invested his savings sum into apartments and flats. He then became a successful businessman.

"I am reasonably well-off. In fact, I'm quite well-off, but not a multi-millionaire. I'm comfortable," he said.

In fact, his net worth rose to nearly $700k when he retired. Unluckily, he was diagnosed with cancer in 2018.

The pensioner shared that he wanted Mar to have his 10 percent as he was the sole person who cared for him genuinely.

We also have high hopes that he will be able to meet his dear friend again very soon.

"When I needed my family's help a couple of years ago, I didn't get it. That's when I thought, well, I'll give it to somebody else that deserves it."

Now, he is still searching for his friend and hopes to see him again soon before his condition worsens.

He added, "I never really forgot you. All I can say, all the best in the future. If you do wish to get in contact, which would be nice, that is entirely up to you."
