Odiyan, Maari 2, KGF and Antariksham are few of the many films slated to release for Christmas and will clash at the box office with Bollywood biggies Simmba and Zero.

The Christmas weekend is coming closer and the filmmakers are surely making use of this holiday season to draw audience's attention over their films. This means that distributors are struggling to find a significant number of screens for their films.

This struggle is much more intense when a host of Tamil films are set to release simultaneously on this Christmas season -  December 20 and 21. To be more specific, Balaji Tharanitharan's Seethakaathi is scheduled for release on 20 December, while Dhanush’s Maari, Sivakarthkeyan’s Kanaa, Jayam Ravi’s Adangamaru, Atharva’s Boomerang, Vishaal’s Kilukkuvaarpatti Singam is set to release on 21 December along with the big-budget project, KGF.

In the meantime, the first space film Antariksham 9000 kmph featuring Varun Tej, Aditi Rao Hydari and Lavanya Tripathi is reported to release on December 21. Hanu Raghavapudi's Padi Padi Leche Manasu will be dubbed and released in Telugu simultaneously.

Mohanlal’s Odiyan is set to hit the theaters on December 14 and expected to create a record at the box office. Tovino Ente Ummante Peru and Njan Prakashan are scheduled for a release on December 21.

In the Kannada film industry, KGF film, which has created a lot of interest among moviegoers with its stunning trailers is set to be out on December 21, making a big clash with Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Zero. Interestingly, directed by Rohit Shetty, Simmba starring Ranveer Singh is all set to hit screens on December 28, the following week.

Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman is set to hit the big screens in India on 14 December.

The Tamil Film Producers Council has decided that there will be no regulations for film release from now till Pongal. Therefore, any filmmakers can announce their release date and there is no need to get permission from the council. This is the reason why six Tamil movies have been scheduled for a release just in one week.

“At the end of the day #TFPC says anybody can release their film for the next one month without any release regulations. All the 5 films announced for December 20/21 are going full steam ahead with their release plans. It is going to be a bloody battle for screens”, trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai wrote on Tweet.
