Alia Bhatt has not been seen in any film for almost a year now. Her last release was Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and Dharma Productions period drama Kalank (2019), which failed to create any spark at the box-office. She is currently juggling four projects, including Sadak 2, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Brahmastra and multilingual RRR. Also, the actress starts shooting for her next Takht with Karan Johar in a couple of weeks from now.

Now, the latest news is coming in that Alia Bhatt is set to join hands with filmmaker Saket Chaudhary who last helmed the critically and commercially successful Irrfan Khan starrer Hindi Medium (2017).

Saket Chaudhary has been working on the script of the social-drama, laced with humour and a message, for quite some time now. He has collaborated with producer Sajid Nadiadwala. The director had confirmed the news back in 2018 but refused to spill more beans on the project. Now, buzz has it that Alia Bhatt has been signed on to play the female lead in the untitled film.

A source close to the development tells a popular publication that the story of the upcoming film is set in the Indian heartland. Saket has been working on the script for a while now and was keen on casting Alia Bhatt. The actress liked the script and has given her nod to star in it. She is expected to sign on the dotted line shortly. Meanwhile, hunt for the leading man is still on. The team will finalise the shooting schedule once the entire cast is locked. Saket has also begun initial recce for appropriate locations.

If Ali Bhatt indeed sings the film, it will mark her fourth collaboration with producer Sajid Khan after Highway (2014), 2 States (2014) and, more recently, the multi-starrer Kalank. An official announcement is awaited though.
