"Isn't It Romantic" Movie Review: The Best Priyanka Chopra Ever Had In Hollywood

Priyanka Chopra surprisingly does a good job in Isn't It Romantic this time, though the movie itself is not mind-blowing enough.

In Isn't It Romantic, Priyanka Chopra played as a hot swimsuit model Isabella. She calls herself a yoga ambassador, but we could not clearly understand her point while watching the movie. The director does not let us have many chances to know what she claims to represent. Instead, she turns out to be a femme fatale in the PG-13 rom-com world that the lead role Natalie is stuck with. In that fantasy world, Isabella falls in love with Josh, who is also Natalie's crush. She does not do anything much, but her role also has a significant impact on Natalie's thoughts and acts.

Honestly, Priyanka Chopra barely appears in the movie, but this has been her best performance ever in Hollywood. She used to have a better amount of screen-time in Baywatch, but that role could not even compare to this one in Isn't It Romantic. In fact, Priyanka just has two or three scenes and for the rest, she was seen on a billboard which is just the background of the movie. Nevertheless, the film still provides her enough space to shine: From her charming smile to her ambiguous accent. Priyanka also takes part in a musical performance in which she can show her dancing and singing skill.

Isn't It Romantic is not that "romantic" when the movie comes slowly to the end. It is more about how the protagonist Natalie learns how to love herself though. She is not that one-very-pretty-girl as same as her role model Julia Roberts or Reese Witherspoon, but she knows that she is smart, kind and funny. She loves Josh, but she also declares that she loves herself and she completes herself. That good point makes the movie different from other rom-com movies.

The director puts in a mix of disapproval and seriousness into what seems like a cliche rom-com movie. It might be a good point, but it is also not interesting enough to keep you engaged until the ending scene. In 88 minutes, there are not many dramatic events to be expected. It has such a steady pace and entirely cannot blow your mind. However, Rebel Wilson's dominant high notes and Priyanka Chopra's charming performance are two things that can significantly exert an attraction for the viewers.
