There's a huge men's skincare industry these days, and ignoring it isn't manly. It's just sloppy and dangerous.

Skincare routine for men is easy than women. If a guy who has similarity in the age, height, and personality with you but still looks younger than you, its because he is taking care of his skin more than you.

If taking care of your skin seems a little feminine to you, think of it as one more weapon to get what you want out of life. There's a huge men's skincare industry these days, and ignoring it isn't manly. It's just sloppy and dangerous.

Take a look at these five skincare mistakes to avoid early ageing.

Mistake 1: Not Using Sunscreen

"90 per cent of premature skin ageing is caused by overexposure", says dermatologist. Everyone gets incidental exposures of the sun that in some cases, can cause sunburn and significant skin damage. Wearing sunscreen regularly can help prevent this. Harmful UV rays penetrate clouds and get to your skin if it’s not protected.

When we're exposed to the sun's UV rays (outside or in a tanning bed), our cells in the lower part of our epidermis push to the top to thicken our skin. This is the reason why our skin is getting rough, leathery feel.

Some of the cells in this epidermis layer called melanocytes produce a darker colour which giving us the tan skin. So that sun-kissed glow means skin damage has already taken place.

Mistake 2: Not Moisturising Enough

Dry/dehydrated skin makes fine lines more visible. So, wrinkles you already have that you didn't notice, because your skin was moisturised will start to pop more as your face dries out.

On the other hand, you shouldn't regularly moisturise your face if you're not also regularly washing your face.

To do so would only give you a thickening film of oil, dead skin and dirt, leading to many blocked pores and acne breakouts. Forgoing moisturiser could lead even more wrinkles to develop.

When your skin is dried out, and therefore chronically inflamed, it could cause a breakdown of collagen, leading to premature ageing.

Mistake 3: Not Dealing With Acne

Whether or not you have acne, it's essential to wash your face twice daily. It helps to remove impurities, dead skin cells, and extra oil from your skin's surface.

Washing more often than twice daily is not necessarily better; it may do more harm than good.

Use warm, not hot, water and a mild facial cleanser. Using a harsh soap (like deodorant body soap) can hurt already inflamed skin and cause more irritation.

Many acne products contain ingredients that dry the skin, so always use a moisturiser that minimises dryness and skin peeling.

Look for "noncomedogenic" on the label, which means it should not cause acne. There are moisturisers made for oily, dry, or combination skin.

Mistake 4: Not Having Proper Shave Routine

Don’t rush through a shave. That’s an excellent way to abuse your face. Instead, spend the necessary time prepping your skin for the razor. Never forget, shaving is important!

A single blade will work fine, though Benabio favours a double-bladed razor for his shaves. The important thing to keep mind, they say, is that the blade you use must be sharp. Discard it if you see a nick in the blade; otherwise, if you shave most days, change blades every week or two.

Mistake 5: Using Products With Harmful Chemicals

Toxic chemicals like benzaldehyde, camphor, ethyl acetate, benzyl acetate, linalool, acetone, and methylene chloride can, when inhaled, cause dizziness, nausea, drowsiness, irritation to throat, eyes, skin, and lungs, kidney damage and headaches.

It’s always a good idea to look for cosmetics that are free of synthetic fragrances, are mineral-based or are made from natural oils. Buying organic products will greatly reduce your exposure to toxins.
