Bollywood has delivered several numerous top-rated films with the content which totally struck a chord with the audience. However, along with blockbusters, 2019 is considered an ups-and-down year of the Hindi film industry when witnessing several disappointing films.

While 2018 was said to be a year of “content was king and not the Khans”, words on the street have it that 2019 has turned out to be a year of the most popular inflated movies.

Here are the top 4 Bollywood biggest flops at the box office in the year 2019:

Kalank

The first name to feature on the list is none other than Karan Johar’s Kalank. Hitting the theaters on 17 April, the film starred two of the most sought-after Jodis of Bollywood, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan.

However, despite the appearance of Bollywood’s much-loved actors, the film couldn’t create a storm at the ticket window.

The film received a lukewarm response from the audience and the reviews from the critics were mostly negative. The fact that it was a mega-budget film with Rs 150 crore in the investment but the collection just came at Rs 81 crore. Produced by Karan’s production house Dharma Productions, Kalank has been the biggest disaster of the year so far.

In an interview with DNA, Karan opened up on the film failure. He said, “To me when Kalank fails, it is my failure. I’m the older one, I’m the wiser one. I’m the more knowledgeable person about what works and what doesn’t. If the film has faltered, it is largely my responsibility and my blame. Of course, no one person can take the blame, but I choose to because I felt that the material was something I was aware of for not one year but 15 years.”

Student of the year 2

2019 seemed to turn sour for Karan Johar when he had to receive two biggest flops in a row. Student of the year 2 came as the second big disappointment. It was the sequel to 2012 hit college drama which witnessed the Bollywood debut of Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan.

SOTY 2 was also the debuted film of two young starlets Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria. Collecting only Rs 70.66 crore, but at least, the movie successfully boosted the name of two such new kids on the block.

Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi

2019 was kicked-off with Kangana Ranaut-starrer film but soon turned out to be a failure. Rumours even had it that Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi somehow became a bad omen for a year with a rain of biggest flops. The performance is outstanding but this ambitious epic period film couldn’t earn back its cost which reportedly came at Rs 125 crore.

The fact that the project went over-budget as many portions had to be re-shot because certain characters were replaced and especially Kangana Ranaut took over as the film’s director. The total collection was only Rs 94.92 crore which means the film crew lost about Rs 30 crore.

India’s Most Wanted

Indias Most Wanted

The film’s opening day collection is off to a very poor start. Made on a budget of around 37 crores, Arjun Kapoor-starrer film failed to win the hearts of the audience. With a domestic grossing at 13.20 crore, the film was considered a disaster.

Despite a great effort of Arjun Kapoor and the whole team for their promotion campaign, India’s Most Wanted was still a disappointing film at the end.

Along with several blockbusters like Kabir Singh, Uri, Super 30, Bharat, such failures were like a minus point in the career of both filmmakers and actors.
