Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar were set to work together for the first time in “Mr Lele”. However, as things stand today, the project has reportedly been put on hold.

Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar were all set to work together for the first time in Dharma Productions’ recently announced production venture, Mr Lele. However, if fresh reports are anything to go by, the much-awaited movie has been put on the backburner.

Varun Dhawan was quite psyched up about reuniting with director Shashank Khaitan for the third time after the humongous success of Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014) and Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017). On January 13, he even went on to drop his first-look from the comic-thriller, which was scheduled to hit the shooting floor this month.

However, the news is coming in that the project has been put on the backburner. While one of the reasons is speculated to be an issue with the script, a source close to the development informs a publication that the decision has been taken due to the non-alignment of the lead cast’s dates. “Shashank had begun work on the pre-production, but the actors’ dates are not aligning. A new plan for Mr Lele will be worked out at a later stage,” the source says.

In Mr Lele, Varun Dhawan was to play a Maharashtrian character for the first time

In the film, which was scheduled to be shot extensively in Mumbai, Varun Dhawan plays a Maharashtrian character for the first time. While speaking to the same publication, the actor had revealed that he was looking forward to exploring the comic-thriller genre with Mr Lele. “After reading the script, I called Shashank 109 times in two days,” said the actor.

Varun Dhawan is currently looking forward to the release of his next film Coolie No. 1, which is an official remake of the 1995 blockbuster comic-caper of the same name. The remake also stars Sara Ali Khan in the lead role, and is slated to enter theatres on 1st May, 2020.
